Brazilian Zouk — Transcendence, Meditation, Co-Creation
About

I'm Revathi — the artist behind RevZouk. I've spent about twenty years within partner dance communities, with Blues Dance as my first love and Brazilian Zouk as my current home.
I experiment as a follower often, and I'd like to start sharing my knowledge. Following is an art just as much as it is a science — it is interpretation, the way a reader interprets a story or an actor inhabits a role. You can accept or reject what's offered, slow it down or speed it up, reshape it, or answer with an idea of your own. That's one (of many) ways that a dance can be improvised and full of wonderful surprise.
I believe that excellent followership requires body awareness more than fitness, musicality and expression more than precision, and above all else: seeking pleasure, more than perfection. I also believe accessing and channeling your subconscious is key to bringing the most interesting thing you can bring to your dance: what makes you you.
If the above resonates and you're looking for private lessons, check out the alignment quiz below to see if I could be a good teacher for you.

Video call, focused on theory & concepts
Why only video calls?
I only focus on teaching concepts to experienced social dancers. I believe these concepts can be shared and understood via storytelling, Q&A, audio and video analysis, etc.

Revathi is passionate about musicality, creative exchange, connection and storytelling — with a multifaceted background that influences her dance: theatre, violin, conducting, a cappella, vocal live-looping, songwriting, sound design, UX design, music production, film scoring, Indian classical and jazz singing, creative writing and more. She has been an instructional assistant at District Zouk over the past five years, with over two decades of social partner dance experience spanning East Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, Charleston, Blues, Kizomba, Argentine Tango and Brazilian Zouk. Her favorite topics are conceptual and focused on social dance techniques — passive/active following, creativity, improvisation, artistry, musicality, and sensuality.

(a few seconds into the dance) How do you do that? Connect so deeply, so quickly.
You may be the only person that listens more deeply to music than I do.
(Summarized) Your Musicality and Playfulness class at District Zouk with Elena was my favorite!
I never told you this, but that connection workshop you taught years ago -- the blindfolded one -- changed my life.
I could count -- maybe three -- people in the entire world that could follow that. I feel like you're game for anything.
There are over 300 people here at this congress, and you are my favorite person to dance with
